Job Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Senior Accounting Specialist is accountable for executing a range of accounting and financial tasks as designated. This role ensures the precise and prompt execution of accounting responsibilities, making informed decisions to support various financial operations. The specialist maintains accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position involves investigating and rectifying discrepancies and accounting inaccuracies, as well as preparing relevant reports, summaries, and documentation. The individual may also undertake special projects as assigned, aligning with and promoting the values of Universal 1 Credit Union.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Certification:

  • A two-year degree in accounting or equivalent professional experience is essential.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year in financial services is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The candidate should possess a solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and procedures, including account reconciliation. Familiarity with the Federal Reserve Banking system is advantageous. Proficiency in relevant computer applications and Microsoft Office software is required. The individual should be adept at using a PC, calculator, and other standard business equipment. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and good mathematical abilities are necessary. The candidate must demonstrate excellent decision-making capabilities, analytical skills, and effective communication skills, along with a cooperative attitude towards assisting colleagues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work Environment: The work environment typically reflects those encountered in an office or call center setting, characterized by a moderate noise level.

Physical and Intellectual Requirements: This role primarily involves sedentary work, requiring prolonged periods of sitting. The ability to hear standard conversations, type, handle small objects, and convey detailed instructions accurately is essential. The candidate must be capable of managing various variables with limited standardization and interpreting diverse instructions. Proficiency in basic mathematical skills, including the use of decimals for computing ratios and percentages, is required. The ability to apply common sense to execute detailed instructions and tackle complex issues is crucial. Effective communication in complex sentences, along with the ability to read a variety of job-related materials and prepare memos, reports, and essays with proper grammar and punctuation, is expected.
