Overview of the Role
Valmont is seeking a motivated and skilled individual for the role of General Shop Help within our Coatings Division. We are in search of a dedicated person who will assist in preparing products and materials for the galvanizing process, which includes hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing smaller components for galvanizing.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe handling and usage of production fixtures, chains, and hooks
- Secure small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing
- Arrange chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking
- Manually transport lightweight steel pieces within the facility
- Utilize air guns to enhance the quality of galvanized products by removing zinc needles
- Operate air or electric tools for preparing or cleaning steel for pickling or galvanizing
- Participate in general plant cleanup and maintenance
- Adhere to safety protocols to protect oneself and others from accidents and injuries
Required Qualifications
- Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions
- Proficiency in accurately reading a tape measure
- Capability to communicate issues or requirements to supervisory staff
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to shoulder height or higher
- Must be able to stand for extended periods in an open-air environment and wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Strong commitment to safety at all times
- A person of integrity and passion, driven to achieve outstanding results
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least six months of experience in a galvanizing role
- Six months of experience using hand tools and gauges, including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, and torches
- Experience operating a bridge crane for at least six months
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive interactions with coworkers
- Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions accurately
- Certification in heavy equipment operation, including forklift operation
