Job Title: Senior Technical Specialist Major Case Unit

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Specialist to join our Major Case Unit team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling and directing high-valued, complex workers' compensation claims involving serious injuries, catastrophic losses, and/or complicated litigation.

About the Role:

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong technical claim handling and organizational skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with senior claim and underwriting management to provide technical expertise and support in the handling of complex claims.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage indemnity, medical, and legal aspects of high-valued, complex workers' compensation claims.
  • Pursue alternate and transitional early return to work to reduce indemnity and medical costs.
  • Document file activity on a timely basis and accurately detail significant events and outstanding issues.
  • Engage tools and resources included in litigation management programs, where applicable.
  • Provide approval for all benefits within authority levels and is responsible for timely issuance in compliance with statutory requirements and best claim practices.
  • Evaluate claim exposure on assigned files proficiently with independence to establish appropriate reserves within assigned authority.
  • Continually evaluate reserves during the life of the claim to ensure accuracy of financial exposure on more complex claims.
  • Develop resolution strategy plans (action plans) and continually assess and update to achieve appropriate claim results and timely closure.
  • Conduct claimant negotiations to achieve claim settlements within authority limits; interact with claimant and/or claimant's attorney as needed to direct negotiations and achieve settlement.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8 years workers' compensation claim handling experience, including NY and NJ claims and other jurisdictions.
  • State adjusters' licenses are preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Technical claim handling and organizational skills.
  • Strong (oral/written) communication and interpersonal skills.
