Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examination Technician to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As a Tax Examination Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and fairness of tax laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Protect the confidentiality of taxpayer information and maintain the highest level of integrity in all interactions.
  • Assign, update, and close cases on Examination Returns Control System (ERCS), Audit Information Management System (AIMS), and Report Generation System (RGS) as necessary.
  • Request and review Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS)/AIMS printouts and transcripts to aid in processing cases.
  • Complete procedural and limited technical review of Examination cases involving simple tax issues.
  • Review and complete procedural review of non-docketed Appeals cases and take appropriate case closing actions.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Federal government.
Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-05: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service.
  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.
  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service.
