Reports to:Accounts Payable Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the direct supervision of the Accounts Payable Manager. The Accounting Technician job function is to ensure accurate and timely payment of the SOMC's financial obligations and to assist the Staff Accountants with the production of monthly financial statements. These financial obligations include invoices of Medical Care Foundation, SOMC Development Foundation, and the Hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Associate Degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
Licensure:
  • N/A
Experience:
  • One to three months accounts payable experience preferred.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with public, patients, and co-workers.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
  • Ability to use computer with Windows.
  • Has above average knowledge on how to use accounts payable system.
  • Has knowledge of basic office equipment such as telephone, calculator, copier, spreadsheet software, and general office equipment.
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Light - occasionally lifts up to 35 pounds retrieving and storing files.
  • Stands and/or walks one to four hours per day and sits four to seven hours per day.
Essential Mental Requirements:
  • Basic analytical skills, ability to organize, cope with pressure and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with good math skills and communication skills.
  • Capability of learning computer software as needed.
Essential Sensory Requirements:
  • Sufficient vision and hearing to perform duties.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Researches various issues, as needed, and assists the staff accountants in the preparation of financial statements, budgets and other routine reports and publications.

2. Prepares spreadsheets for staff accountants use during the production of monthly financial statements.

3. Assists the treasury department to ensure the hospital maintains a proper cash flow.

4. Responsible for reconciling price and/or quantity discrepancies with outside vendors along with purchasing department.

5. Interprets invoices and checks requests for proper identification to ensure compliance with the GAAP rules and regulations. This includes cross checking for duplicate payments and coding consistency.

6. Assists during the yearly audits with the collection of information.

7. Maintains the computerized accounts payable system to ensure timely and cost-effective processing and payment of invoices through the use of discounts, tax exemptions, and waived freight charges.

8. Reviews and prioritizes incoming correspondences from vendors and internal customers.

9. Maintains accurate files of completed, paid voucher records.

10. Monitors the issuance of recurring payments which includes lease and other contracted services.

11. Filing of 1099 information.

12. Responsible for maintaining the Accounts Payable function for multiple SOMC entities. (SOMC, Medical Office Buildings, Friends of SOMC, and Medical Care Foundation.)

13. Keeps manager informed of issues vital to the performance of their job.

14. Distributes internal and external mail daily.

15. Performs other duties are assigned.
