Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examination Technician to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As a Tax Examination Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of our tax system by examining tax returns and investigating alleged tax fraud.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed paraprofessional support duties related to the examination of tax returns and/or the investigation of alleged tax fraud.
  • Locate, search, and document specific information from records of individuals, corporations, banks, brokerage firms, etc.
  • Analyze taxpayer records, third-party records, and financial data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Identify and report discrepancies and inconsistencies to the agent.
  • Prepare, verify, and assemble work papers, schedules, and exhibits, and related documentation.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check.
  • Must complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or one year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
