Job Summary:

Are you skilled in the installation and maintenance of sophisticated technology? The Aeronautics Division at the Nebraska Department of Transportation is on the lookout for an Aviation Electronics Specialist. We seek a dedicated, enthusiastic individual who is eager to contribute to a greater mission.

We are interested in candidates with a strong aptitude for installing and maintaining intricate electronic systems essential for aviation navigation and meteorological reporting.

This role is fulfilling and involves working with communication systems, computers, navigational aids, visual support tools, and various electronic devices both on and off airports within the National Air Space System.

Key Responsibilities:

Utilize schematic diagrams, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and factory publications to operate, modify, test, and repair complex electronic systems required for aviation navigation and weather reporting.

Perform construction, installation, preventive maintenance inspections, analyze meter readings, troubleshoot, and replace malfunctioning components.

Gain training and certifications necessary for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the following navigational aids:

  • VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range (VOR)
  • Nondirectional Radio Beacon (NDB)
  • Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)
  • Automated Weather Observation Systems (AWOS)

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Electronic Specialist/Aviation Aids: Associate's degree in electronics or two years of relevant experience. A General Radiotelephone Operator License (PG) from the FCC is required within three months of employment.
  • Electronic Specialist Senior/Aviation Aids: Associate's degree in electronics and experience with navigational aid equipment. Additional years of experience may substitute for educational requirements. A General Radiotelephone Operator License (PG) and FAA verification for AWOS are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in electronics.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • FCC General Radio Telephone operator's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices in electronic repair and construction; understanding of circuit boards, processors, chips, and software applications.

Ability to establish work priorities, repair and construct electronic systems, and communicate effectively.

Capability to operate, repair, and calibrate test equipment, troubleshoot electronic systems, and read schematics and construction plans.
