Job Summary:

Sayres Defense is seeking a highly skilled Senior Waterfront Engineer to support the Navy's Strategic and Theater Sealift (PMS 385) Shipbuilding program.

The successful candidate will serve as the waterfront engineering lead in support of the PMS 385 Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) shipbuilding program, acting as a liaison between Sayres engineering and waterfront team, PMS 385, and the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) for all production engineering matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply experience in various areas of Marine Engineering, including Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, C4I, Structural, Propulsion, Auxiliary Machinery, Naval Architecture, Deck Equipment, and Aviation Support.
  • Investigate and resolve engineering issues while referencing ship specifications, shipyard contract, drawings, models, and other technical documentation.
  • Perform shipchecks as required and assist in the development of Work Packages, Statements of Work, and specifications to ensure adherence to requirements.
  • Develop weekly reports (SITREPs, Metrics) on production engineering issues, corrective actions, physical progress, shipyard performance, etc.
  • Identify risks and provide analysis of emergent issues to include recommendations for risk mitigation and/or resolution.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum ten (10) years' relevant experience, or High School Diploma and equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with management of ship construction and marine engineering technical issues.
  • Knowledge of Navy/MSC shipbuilding requirements and processes.
  • Ability to work in a shipyard environment, to likely include daily walkthroughs onboard auxiliary ships with steep ladders and several decks.
  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an emphasis on providing good customer service; highly self-motivated and resourceful with strong problem-solving skills; and exceptional attention to detail and an ability to work with minimal supervision from the customer.
  • MS Office suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity to support progressing and presentations.
  • Active Secret security clearance verifiable in DISS or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of direct experience working in or supporting NAVSEA, Military Sealift Command, construction shipyards (NASSCO), and/or operating/maintaining a commercial or military vessel.
  • Prior military, maritime, or Marine Engineer background.
  • Familiarity with ABS and Steel Vessel Rules.

Salary:

The salary for this position is likely $115,000 - $140,000. Salary ranges are not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
