POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is situated within the Grounds Management Division of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Oklahoma City, typically reporting to a division or section leader. The individual in this position is tasked with delivering standard research and analytical assistance by assessing previously identified issues, formulating alternatives, and providing both written and verbal recommendations for program, policy, and procedural modifications based on independently conducted operational evaluations. A range of administrative responsibilities supporting work activities will be undertaken, including budget formulation, goal and objective setting, staff report drafting, and conducting special studies such as feasibility, time, cost, and cost-benefit analyses. Prior knowledge of the specialized functional duties of the assigned work unit may be necessary before assuming the role.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinating and overseeing the activities of administrative and clerical personnel.
  • Reviewing documents for precision, completeness, and punctuality.
  • Implementing special projects, programs, or policy-related initiatives.
  • Performing tasks specific to the designated department, program area, or office function, including processing specialized business forms and documents, managing payroll or purchasing tasks, initiating personnel actions, and interpreting or categorizing codes.
  • Designing and coordinating large-scale projects and functions by determining work procedures and staffing needs, assigning tasks, leading and instructing team members, assisting in establishing and/or interpreting policies, and making administrative decisions.

The position necessitates frequent interaction with other City personnel, external organizations, and the public to exchange information related to work activities, policies, and procedures. The employee must exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding the exchange of information and/or activities that may be confidential in nature. Assignments may be both general and specific and can be communicated verbally or in writing. Information exchanges support well-defined administrative or operational policies or procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily in a climate-controlled indoor environment.

  • Continuous exposure to light and glare from computer monitors.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Steadiness and dexterity in hands and arms to operate standard office equipment such as computers and telephones.
  • Near vision sufficient to read and draft written communications and reports.
