About the Role

Sea Mar Community Health Centers is seeking a skilled Child Care Assistant to join our team in South Park, Seattle. This full-time position involves assisting in the planning and execution of activities for an assigned classroom. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of child development, as demonstrated through professional references, education, experience, and on-the-job performance.

Main Responsibilities
  • Participate in mandatory trainings, service projects, and team-building activities throughout their 10-11 month term of service.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to prepare and deliver instructional activities that promote active learning experiences.
  • Assist in guiding children through self-directed activities, allowing them to develop at their own pace.
  • Foster a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment, alongside lead teachers.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of good teaching practices through verbal communication and role modeling.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment.
  • Tend to the physical care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group.
  • Provide information to parents regarding their children's progress and general child development.
  • Take responsibility for setting the tone for and maintaining classroom discipline.
  • Actively participate in the Healthy Futures education project for AmeriCorps, providing health education materials to teachers, children, and families.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma is required.
  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • A current TB test (within the past year) and satisfactory background checks from WATCH and CNCS are necessary.
  • A valid Food Handler's Permit must be maintained.
  • CPR Certification within 90 days of the start date and ongoing maintenance are required.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are preferred but not necessary.
  • Reliable transportation is essential.
