ROLE SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Unit Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Administrator, you will be responsible for assessing, treating, and caring for residents with respiratory conditions. As directed by a physician, you will set up and manage various respiratory care devices for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory illnesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to the organization's mission, values, and ethical standards.
  • Interpret prescriptions, assess arterial blood gases, and analyze resident data to determine their health status.
  • Prepare and operate equipment such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, and aerosol generators, adhering to specified treatment protocols. Administer prescribed therapies using devices like the Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB) Machine, oxygen delivery systems, nebulizers, and ultrasonic nebulizers to provide medicinal vapors and gases, humidity, and various oxygen levels to enhance respiratory function.
  • With proper authorization, perform arterial punctures and operate blood gas analyzers to evaluate acid-base balance and respiratory efficiency.
  • Monitor residents' physiological responses to treatments, including vital signs and blood gas levels, and consult with physicians regarding any adverse reactions.
  • Conduct chest physiotherapy procedures, including percussion, postural drainage, and suctioning, to facilitate mucus clearance and alleviate airway obstructions.
  • Perform pulmonary function tests to assess airflow dynamics within the respiratory system.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 2-4 years of experience in providing direct respiratory therapy services to multiple patients; experience in acute care or skilled nursing settings is preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered California Respiratory License, credentialed by the NBRC.
  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program is preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
