Our expanding national network encompasses a central campus in Los Angeles, various clinical care sites throughout Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, and treatment facilities in major cities across the United States. Our compassionate and committed workforce is united by a singular mission: to deliver innovative treatments to those in need.
The role of the respiratory therapist involves the management and treatment of patients suffering from respiratory disorders. This includes the collection and analysis of sputum, blood, and respiratory samples to assess levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. The therapist administers physician-prescribed treatments for patients with breathing abnormalities and performs technical tasks in accordance with established respiratory therapy protocols. Collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals is essential to ensure optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and operate equipment and medications to deliver respiratory treatments as prescribed; document treatment, patient responses, and progress.
- Monitor patients, inspect equipment, and make necessary adjustments during rounds.
- Document observations and services, ensuring accurate patient records are maintained.
- Provide assistance in basic life support during cardiopulmonary emergencies.
- Engage in fire safety and other training programs both within and outside the medical facility; maintain current CPR certification.
- Conduct EKGs and arterial blood gas analyses.
- Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance standards.
- Evaluate and document the condition of patients on ventilators, including ETT tube placement, cuff pressure, breath sounds, respiratory effort, and other relevant indicators.
- Assess and document the status of patients receiving respiratory treatments before and after procedures.
- Provide education to patients and their families regarding initial treatments, oxygen therapy, procedures, or ventilator use, and evaluate their responses using the interdisciplinary education flow sheet.
- Access medications in accordance with established protocols and within the scope of practice.
- Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, workshops, and literature review.
- Support monitoring efforts to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards in the field of respiratory therapy.
