Fleet Manager Job Description

Malace|HR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the maintenance and repair of our company's fleet of vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our fleet, while also maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assign daily work priorities for the repair and preventive maintenance of company vehicles.
  • Manage labor, parts, and supply costs within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Communicate with operations to understand and support daily fleet needs.
  • Supervise staff in meeting all corporate standards and state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to fleet maintenance and vehicle repairs.
  • Supervise and ensure quality control of all vehicle repairs.
  • Write repair orders, review records, and maintain vehicle files.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and assign necessary repairs from driver defect reports.
  • Conduct shop safety meetings and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Order parts and supplies, control and manage inventory, and evaluate and recommend tool and equipment needs.
  • Train mechanics in technical skills required to perform daily tasks.
  • Understand, teach, and monitor best management practices (BMPs) in the handling of fuel, hazardous waste, and storm water management.
  • Set standards of repair quality and shop cleanliness, and may be required to maintain and repair vehicles.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labor and resources.
  • Responsible for security of building.
  • Assist in developing bids for bulk purchases and new vehicles.
  • Participate in evaluating bids.
  • Maintain standards of environmental compliance and best management practices.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma (GED)
  • AA degree in automotive technology or related field preferred.
  • Graduation from vocational institute and journeyman level work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience in repair of all vehicular equipment.
  • Experience in all areas of preventive maintenance.
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Experience in operation of various tools and equipment as required.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Experience in ability to make major repairs as required.
  • Experience in replacing major assemblies and components without supervision.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge in logistics organization with a demonstrated ability to prioritize needs and demands.
