Job Overview

Salary: Competitive

Under the guidance of the Clinical Staff Coordinator and/or Provider, the Certified Clinical Assistant is responsible for preparing patients for medical consultations, which includes conducting patient screenings and gathering health histories. This role also involves coordinating and ensuring follow-up on patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or Equivalent

Completion of a Practical Nursing Program or Equivalent

Experience:

Preferred one year of recent experience in a healthcare environment. Current National Medical Assistant Certification is preferred. A valid Practical Nursing License or equivalent is also preferred. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Cultural competence in engaging with diverse populations is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Arrive at work as scheduled, punctual and ready to begin duties.
  2. Perform duties associated with CSS I.
  3. Act as the primary contact for patients with inquiries, addressing concerns as necessary.
  4. Conduct basic laboratory tasks, CLIA waived lab tests, and clinical procedures within the appropriate scope of practice (e.g., administering injections, dispensing medications, performing EKGs, conducting vision screenings, and changing dressings).
  5. Assist the provider during medical procedures.
  6. Manage patient follow-up and coordinate care (e.g., obtaining prior authorizations, completing necessary patient documentation for provider review, following up on abnormal results) in accordance with clinic protocols and/or directives from the Nurse Case Manager.
  7. Listen to, document, respond to, and if needed, route provider voicemail messages.
  8. Process medication refills in accordance with clinic protocols.
  9. Prepare for patient visits by gathering necessary pre-visit information for daily team discussions, including relevant data from the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program if licensed.
  10. Review patient paperwork to identify necessary actions, including health records (e.g., health history, lab results, imaging, immunizations) and complete documentation within the scope of abilities for provider review.
  11. Track patient recalls (childhood and adult immunizations, future blood work, abnormal pap smears, colonoscopies, etc.).
  12. Assist in maintaining and/or implementing a tracking system or registry, entering recalls for specific patient populations (e.g., prenatal patients, diabetes patients) using the center's electronic data system.
  13. Complete, submit, and track Pharmaceutical Company Prescription Assistance Applications and travel vouchers.
  14. Operate and maintain the center's medical equipment following manufacturer instructions and clinic protocols.
  15. Collaborate with other departments and integrate work with staff to ensure efficient and accurate patient flow.
  16. Participate in team meetings.
  17. Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  18. Adhere to the center's policies and procedures.
  19. Utilize specialized office and medical equipment according to established procedures.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient in pediatric and adult injection techniques.

Phlebotomy skills.

Current computer proficiency.

Familiarity with common medical practice equipment.

Understanding of standard outpatient medical documentation.

Knowledge of common office equipment (e.g., copier, fax machine, printer).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

Capacity to work under pressure.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

This position may require travel within designated areas, necessitating a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance. The role may also involve occasional evening and weekend work.
