Job SummaryThis position is aligned with institutional and college-level leadership in supporting, developing, and leading advising initiatives for KSU's undergraduate population. The successful candidate will provide direct supervision to the assigned departmental advising team, collaborate with academic departments and campus partners, and support the success of students in meeting academic and graduation goals.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive academic advising services to assigned student population
- Assist with the identification, organization, and execution of retention and graduation rate-impacting initiatives to support student progression
- Prepare and update advisement materials to assist in the progression of students along with the knowledge of advisement staff
- Create, implement, and participate in events and initiatives to support the retention, progression, and graduation of students
- Assist with the assessment of services and programs provided to students within the advising office
- Supervise and evaluate assigned academic advising staff
- Ensure high quality performance, professionalism, and customer service standards of advising staff through regular training and development
- Provide guidance to academic advisors undertaking these initiatives to ensure timely completion
- Collaborate with leadership, Academic Advising Centers, departments, faculty, and campus partners to foster student success and positive working relationships
- Represent the assigned college on appropriate campus committees
- Assist with the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc.
- Provide second-level oversight of retention, progression, and graduation of students within assigned populations, and offer proactive outreach communications for students who may benefit from timely advising interventions
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Five (5) years of experience as an academic advisor
Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as student success systems and tools
Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Able to access confidential student information
- Able to interact effectively with students
- Participates in ongoing professional development activities that enhance academic advising outcomes
- Able to gather information from the originating institution or KSU department to assist the proper completion of a valid and purposeful academic plan
- Able to work evenings and weekends to support College initiatives, events, and/or activities
- Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines
