Job Summary

The Agency Administrative Review Officer is responsible for conducting administrative due process hearings in accordance with federal and state regulations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preside over evidentiary due process Administrative Hearings, pursuant to Arkansas Administrative Procedures Act, state and federal laws, and agency policy.
  • Conduct hearings by swearing in witnesses, hearing testimony, and determining admissibility of evidence.
  • Make final ruling and write final orders on hearings, based on weight of evidence, testimony, and the appropriate policy.
  • Schedule administrative hearings and make pre-hearing rulings on objections, continuances, and dismissals of appeals.
  • Research, review, and analyze materials prior to hearings and identify issues for hearings.
  • Oversee preparation of transcripts and records of decisions appealed to the Circuit Court.
  • Respond to requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act and research case laws and statutory laws relating to the agency program and administrative law.
  • May supervise legal support staff.
Requirements

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in public administration, criminal justice, business management or a related field; plus three years of experience in administrative review and determination, alternative dispute resolution, conflict management, or a related field.

Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
