Eliot Community Human Services is in search of an innovative and strengths-oriented Housing Stability Coordinator to join our impactful Tenancy Preservation Program (TPP). This program is designed to provide expert clinical consultation to the court in eviction cases where individuals are entitled to "reasonable accommodations" due to documented mental health or physical disabilities.

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with the Housing Court, including judges, mediators, and social service providers, to ensure that tenants maintain stable housing. This involves facilitating referrals for treatment and support to address tenancy issues and prevent eviction. Our TPP staff also engage in cases where eviction is imminent, providing essential community support services.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep sense of empathy and an open-minded approach to recovery and harm reduction, particularly when collaborating with individuals facing homelessness, medical complexities, or untreated behavioral health challenges (e.g., PTSD). Housing Stability Coordinators will identify and tackle barriers to securing and sustaining long-term housing, employing a housing-first methodology within a cutting-edge multidisciplinary team framework, which includes specialized treatment modalities for post-traumatic stress, Recovery Coaching, and in-field Psychiatry/MAT. Familiarity with local resources and providers is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the dignity and respect of all consumers in alignment with ECHS' Human Rights Policy.
  • Conduct initial assessments for individuals referred by the Housing Court, Legal Services, the Department of Mental Health, or other authorized sources.
  • Develop individualized case management and clinical plans in collaboration with clients, identifying the root causes of housing instability and coordinating actionable treatment steps, measurable goals, interventions, and outcomes to prevent homelessness.
  • Facilitate linkages across agencies through thorough clinical assessments and identification of consumer needs, aiming to prevent homelessness by stabilizing current tenancies or securing alternative housing.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local public and private resources, including entitlement programs, housing options, and community services, while fostering effective working relationships with collaborative partners.
  • Possess a solid understanding of Massachusetts Housing Law, including tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities, particularly concerning the eviction process.
  • Collaborate with Court-appointed Housing Specialists to mediate disputes between tenants and landlords referred to the Housing Court, assisting in de-escalation and problem-solving efforts.
  • Oversee the collection of data required by grant and funding sources, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and maintaining organized documentation.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Housing Court and the agency to optimize resource utilization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, or a related field, or a minimum of two years of professional experience working with the homeless adult population is required.
  • A Master's degree in the Healing Arts or Education is highly preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating eligibility criteria based on disabling conditions, reasonable accommodation options through Housing Court systems, dispute mediation, and housing resources is essential.
  • Ability to assess client support systems, develop comprehensive service plans with significant client input, and provide ongoing support services.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with high-stress periods.
  • Must possess a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license for outreach services.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as necessary.

Location: Northeast MA

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm (flexibility based on program needs)
