This role is situated within the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Division of Drug Enforcement. The incumbent will function as a Law Enforcement Officer (Canine), tasked with executing law enforcement responsibilities and ensuring public safety across communities within Indian Country.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
GL-09: To be eligible for the GL-09 level, candidates must possess one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GL-07 grade level, demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:
1. Formulating and presenting justifications for arrest warrants;
2. Conducting thorough investigations into criminal activities;
3. Prosecuting and apprehending law violators to safeguard facilities and resources;
4. Preserving the integrity of evidence from collection through to proper disposal upon case completion.
OR;

Education: A minimum of 2 years of progressively advanced graduate education leading to a master's degree or an equivalent graduate degree in a relevant field of study OR a combination of specialized experience and education that meets 100% of the experience requirement.

OR;
A combination of experience and education that collectively fulfills 100% of the above requirement.
GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 level, candidates must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GL-09 grade level, exhibiting capabilities in:
1. Investigating criminal activities, including securing crime scenes and collecting evidence;
2. Issuing citations and filing criminal complaints;
3. Collaborating with fellow law enforcement officers and agencies through information exchange and coordinated activities regarding criminal cases;
4. Informing public land users about procedures, laws, and regulations to ensure compliance;
5. Providing constructive feedback to bureau supervisors and staff on law enforcement protection matters.
OR;
Education: Completion of 3 full academic years of progressively advanced graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field of study.

FIREARMS QUALIFICATION:

This position mandates that the incumbent meets initial and ongoing qualifications in firearms usage as stipulated by the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996.

Applicants with any of the following backgrounds will be disqualified from consideration:

1. Conviction of a crime punishable by imprisonment exceeding one year;
2. Outstanding warrants or status as a fugitive from justice;
3. Unlawful use of or addiction to controlled substances;
4. Adjudication as a mental defective or commitment to a mental institution;
5. Illegal or unlawful presence in the United States;
6. Renunciation of U.S. citizenship;
7. Subject to a court-ordered restraining order for harassment, stalking, or threats against an intimate partner or child;
8. Conviction of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
All qualification criteria must be satisfied by the closing date of this announcement.
Preference in filling vacancies is granted to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472).
