Role Responsibilities

As the Chief Engineering Officer, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for orchestrating engineering teams across all levels. This includes overseeing frontend and backend development, data science, modeling, AI, and hardware engineering, while fostering a vibrant and productive engineering culture focused on quality, efficiency, collaboration, and cost-effectiveness. You will also be tasked with building and managing engineering teams and collaborating closely with product leadership to ensure that engineering advancements enhance Aclima's offerings, delivering unique value to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Formulate and implement the engineering strategy and innovation roadmap aligned with the company's vision and product goals.
  • Team Development: Mentor and lead a diverse group of engineers across software, hardware, and data analytics.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide comprehensive technical and strategic support to engineering teams, balancing long-term development with immediate product requirements.

Product Development:

  • Facilitate collaboration with product leads to ensure timely and effective execution of product roadmaps, enabling engineering teams to deliver outstanding products.
  • Engage with stakeholders and occasionally customers to ensure that solutions meet their needs.

Innovation:

  • Drive advancements in environmental sensing technologies and data systems, emphasizing scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Oversee the management of the company's intellectual property portfolio in collaboration with legal counsel.

Operational Excellence:

  • Establish and implement best practices in engineering processes and methodologies to boost productivity and quality.
  • Ensure robust testing, validation, and quality assurance systems are in place.
  • Lead and inspire engineering managers, overseeing resource allocation, recruitment, compensation, and professional development.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive culture within engineering teams and across departments, celebrating innovation and dedication.
  • Regularly update the organization on progress to ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Effectively communicate with leadership and the broader organization, providing updates on engineering initiatives.
  • Support sales, customer success, and fundraising efforts as needed.
  • Present engineering strategies and progress to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Preferred location: SF Bay Area.
  • Over 10 years of experience in engineering roles, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record in developing and deploying IoT solutions, particularly in environmental or climate tech sectors.
  • Deep understanding of full-stack development and expertise in building scalable, cloud-native architectures.
  • Outstanding leadership, management, communication, and project management capabilities.
  • Experience in scaling engineering teams from 5 to over 100 members.
  • Customer-facing experience as the engineering lead for an organization.
  • A passion for startup environments.

  • Knowledge in related fields such as geospatial processing, remote sensing, or atmospheric science.
