This executive will spearhead the formulation and implementation of engineering strategies, ensuring they align with our organizational goals while upholding the highest standards of quality and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will cultivate a culture of creativity and teamwork, motivate and guide a skilled engineering team, and establish processes that improve our product delivery and quality assurance.

We have an exciting roadmap ahead of us. Our founder and team possess extensive experience in the industry we serve, and we are clear on what needs to be developed to continue innovating and delivering value to our clients.

We require an engineering leader who can expedite the realization of that roadmap.

Key Outcomes You Will Own and Drive

Be accountable for designing, executing, and overseeing the engineering, quality, and product processes to enhance efficiency and speed of delivery.

Adopt best practices and tools that streamline development, minimize bottlenecks, and boost team collaboration.

Create a system to effortlessly monitor velocity and quality without consuming team members' time.

The ideal candidate will have strong convictions on how to establish this process based on prior experience and will be confident in making decisions and driving change.

Create a Work Culture Where Engineers Thrive and Recruit for Our Series B Roadmap:

Foster and maintain a positive, high-performing engineering culture that attracts and retains top talent.

Strategically recruit and onboard new engineers to grow our team in line with our Series B expansion plans and future roadmap.

Champion initiatives that encourage professional development, mentorship, and career advancement for engineering team members.

Design, Implement, and Manage a More Efficient Quality Assurance Process:

Establish comprehensive quality assurance protocols that reduce bugs and defects in production releases.

Integrate automated testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices to enhance reliability and speed.

Ensure that quality assurance processes are scalable and adaptable to support our expanding product suite and customer base.

The ideal candidate will have strong convictions on how to build, operate, and scale a QA process based on past experience and will be confident in making decisions and driving change.

What the Day-to-Day Looks Like

Ensure that projects are progressing on schedule and that the team is operating efficiently.

Assist developers facing challenges with code, technology, and process issues as needed.

Act as a sounding board for strategic decisions alongside our CTO and head of product.

Own the reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.

Establish an efficient rhythm for conducting 1:1s with engineering team members that provides constructive feedback and guidance without wasting their time.

Requirements

Must Haves:

Experience managing venture-backed Series A+ engineering teams.

Deep knowledge of JavaScript, React, and Golang.

Experience with Kubernetes (we utilize GCP GKE) and containerization.

Experience leading Agile development.

Willingness to be hands-on and resourceful. While coding is not expected in your daily tasks, you should be capable of doing so.

In addition to that, we want to talk if you have:

Experience with Typescript.

Familiarity with Pub/Sub systems.

Understanding of ETL pipelines.

Familiarity with SDLC concepts and experience in environments that comply with SOC 2 Type II requirements, GDPR, CCPA, etc.

The Company You'll Join

We are a pioneering, category-defining software company that is transforming the commercial construction industry. Clearstory is digitizing and automating the change order process within this sector.

Regardless of the financial software a construction company uses internally, they can utilize our platform to share costs with their partners.

This is why our integrations team is crucial to our company's success.

Just as TurboTax revolutionized tax documentation and other platforms did for accounts receivable and payable, Clearstory is doing the same for change order communication between construction firms.

The construction industry is rapidly evolving due to technology, yet the methods companies use to communicate costs have not changed in decades, still relying heavily on outdated processes such as carbon copy paper, spreadsheets, and email to track billions of dollars.

These archaic manual processes can take days or weeks and involve hours of tedious office tasks such as scanning, manual transcription, and data entry into spreadsheets.

At Clearstory, we are changing that by intelligently digitizing this age-old process, creating a new category of 'change order communication.'

This leads to increased profits, improved contractor-to-customer relationships, enhanced transparency regarding project costs, and reduced paper waste.

We are a Series B 100% SaaS company with impressive credentials for a company at our stage.

The Team You'll Be Surrounded By

In addition to experienced SaaS sales, marketing, engineering, and product leaders, our team boasts over 60 years of combined experience in the commercial construction space.

At Clearstory, we understand our customers' pain points and challenges firsthand and have developed a category-defining product that prioritizes user experience.

You'll be part of an ambitious and collaborative company, dedicated to building a supportive and diverse team that is passionate about empowering our contractor customers.

More important than meeting 100% of qualifications, we are looking for collaborative, long-term team members with a growth mindset, a commitment to proactive communication, and a bias towards action, who are aligned and excited with our company's mission to establish the industry standard in digital change order communication for the commercial construction sector.

The Opportunity

As an early member of the team, you will have a significant impact on the development and evolution of our company and workplace culture.

This is your opportunity to join a team that is introducing groundbreaking technology to a stagnant, traditional aspect of the commercial construction industry.

This is an earlier-stage company, and as such, you will enjoy many intangible benefits that accompany that opportunity, such as the ability to influence the culture of your workplace, make an immediate impact with a product that has already achieved product-market fit, and enjoy significant product influence.

Benefits

- Opportunity to work with a new product category that has already found product-market fit.

- This role requires in-office presence five days a week.

- Regular executive interaction.

- Competitive market-rate salary for a Series A company.

- Subsidized healthcare, vision, and dental coverage.

- Early equity opportunities.

- We are an equal-opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate. We value fairness, collaboration, communication, and leadership and build our teams around these principles.
