Position Overview

As the Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Pangea Laboratory, you will be responsible for managing the daily functions of our advanced diagnostic laboratory. Your primary focus will be to ensure adherence to CLIA/CAP regulations while overseeing workflow and staff management. This role involves supervising complex testing procedures, mentoring laboratory personnel, optimizing laboratory resources, and resolving intricate issues to uphold the precision and dependability of test results. You will also engage in quality assurance efforts, conduct audits, and revise protocols to align with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the overall operations of the clinical laboratory, including workflow oversight, staff scheduling, and ensuring timely test execution.
  • Guarantee compliance with safety standards and CLIA/CAP regulations for all clinical testing.
  • Provide on-site supervision during high complexity testing performed by laboratory staff.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the team regarding daily operations and ongoing projects.
  • Train and orient all laboratory staff; review training documentation and assess personnel performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues that may impact test outcomes.
  • Familiarize yourself with laboratory protocols for specimen handling, equipment operation, maintenance, and data interpretation.
  • Oversee inventory management of laboratory supplies and equipment; coordinate maintenance and calibration of instruments.
  • Conduct laboratory tests and accurately analyze results, ensuring the reliability of laboratory data.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, reporting any compliance issues to the relevant personnel. Participate in all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Plan and execute assay validation and verification; prepare summary reports.
  • Conduct competency evaluations and proficiency testing for laboratory staff in accordance with CAP/CLIA standards.
  • Implement quality control protocols to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
  • Review quality control and quality assurance metrics on a monthly basis.
  • Draft or update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) following CAP guidelines.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in laboratory science through ongoing education and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Active California State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) is required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in molecular testing is essential.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing is highly preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or related areas.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems (LIS).

Compensation:

The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including geographic location, experience, and skills.
