As the Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist at Pangea Laboratory, you will be responsible for managing the daily functions of our advanced diagnostic laboratory. Your role will involve ensuring adherence to CLIA/CAP regulations while effectively overseeing staff and laboratory workflows. You will supervise complex testing procedures, mentor laboratory personnel, and resolve intricate issues to uphold the precision and dependability of test results. Additionally, you will engage in quality assurance programs, perform audits, and revise protocols to align with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall operations of the clinical laboratory, including staff scheduling and ensuring timely test completion.
- Guarantee compliance with safety standards and CLIA/CAP regulations for all clinical testing.
- Provide direct oversight during high-complexity testing performed by staff.
- Facilitate effective communication within the team regarding daily operations and ongoing projects.
- Conduct training and orientation for laboratory personnel; evaluate training documentation and performance assessments.
- Address complex issues that may impact test outcomes.
- Familiarize yourself with laboratory protocols for specimen handling, equipment operation, and data analysis.
- Oversee inventory management of laboratory supplies and equipment, coordinating maintenance and calibration as necessary.
- Perform laboratory analyses and ensure the accuracy of test results.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, reporting noncompliance to relevant personnel, and participate in quality assurance initiatives.
- Plan and execute assay validation/verification, documenting findings.
- Conduct competency evaluations and proficiency testing in accordance with CAP/CLIA standards.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure reliable laboratory results.
- Review quality control and assurance metrics on a monthly basis.
- Draft or update standard operating procedures in compliance with CAP guidelines.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in laboratory science through ongoing education and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Active California State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) is required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in molecular testing is essential.
- Experience with next-generation sequencing is highly preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation is crucial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems (LIS) is required.
