Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor to join our Custodial Services team at Columbia University. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality services to our academic and administrative units, while developing and implementing strategies to achieve departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Direct and supervise a team of staff members to ensure the delivery of exceptional services.
    • Develop and implement performance standards to meet the service expectations of our clients.
    • Monitor productivity measures and customer satisfaction to identify areas for improvement.
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Coordinate the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, routines, and schedules to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
    • Work closely with other CU Facilities staff members to ensure a well-coordinated effort to maximize the provision of complimentary services.
  • Operational Management
    • Administer performance standards to meet the service expectations of a broad client base.
    • Monitor productivity measures to identify and track progress and customer satisfaction.
    • Maintain effective communications with clients and stakeholders.
  • Staff Management
    • Directly supervise staff in the delivery of programs necessary to maintain facilities in the most efficient and effective manner.
    • Participate in the hiring, training, evaluation, and termination of staff as required.
    • Interpret the collective bargaining agreement and resolve issues that may arise.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Evaluate and make recommendations on equipment, supplies, and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and regulatory guidelines.
    • Ensure that all activities and programs are accomplished in accordance with statutory requirements and regulatory guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience, including managing a unionized workforce, required.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Computer literacy and strong knowledge of MS Office required.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
    • Experience leading, directing, and managing a minimum staff of 20 required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in positions of increasing responsibility in custodial services or a related field within a large complex organization preferred.
