Job Title: Vice President of Operational Risk Management at Discover

Position Overview:
Delivering credible and independent oversight for all operational risks within the Consumer Banking sector. Engaging in critical discussions and providing guidance on new offerings, services, challenges, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and vendor relationships. Collaborating closely with business units to implement legal and regulatory mandates, assessing procedures, and offering strategic counsel on risk-related issues. Partnering with Corporate Risk Management to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management.

This position plays a vital role in aligning business objectives with strategic operational risk insights, understanding risk in relation to organizational goals. Key attributes and qualifications include:

  • Robust management capabilities and sound judgment focused on business implications and risks
  • Exceptional leadership skills to inspire and communicate effectively across all organizational levels
  • High ethical standards and transparent decision-making aligned with corporate objectives
  • Fostering a culture of effective risk management and accountability

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operational risks, new offerings, services, challenges, KRIs, and vendor relationships
  • Identify and manage operational risks arising from new regulations, laws, and business strategies
  • Evaluate and advise on business strategies to mitigate operational risks
  • Supervise operational risks and controls established within the organization
  • Collaborate with Corporate Risk Management for a holistic approach to risk management

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or Finance
  • 6+ years of experience in the Consumer Banking sector
  • 10+ years in risk management and regulatory compliance
  • Experience in risk analytics and frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years in consumer compliance, risk management, or legal risk
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, or Finance
