Position Overview

The Director of Interpretation and Education will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative and educational strategies at our historic site. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for crafting a comprehensive vision that reflects the innovative spirit of the site’s history and its architectural significance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement a strategic interpretive plan that aligns with the organization’s mission of inclusivity and diversity.
  • Oversee the development and execution of engaging educational programs, exhibitions, and tours that resonate with a broad audience.
  • Lead a dynamic team of educators and interpreters, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and professional growth.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local schools and community organizations to enhance educational outreach and engagement.
  • Ensure that all programming reflects best practices in visitor-centered interpretation and is accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on fundraising initiatives and marketing strategies to promote educational offerings.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in interpretation, education, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of public history, museum studies, or related disciplines.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with a proven ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience in developing community-based programs and fostering relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
