ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Glass House, a National Trust Historic Site, is a remarkable property designed by architect Philip Johnson, showcasing a significant collection of 20th-century art. The site serves as a platform for the preservation and interpretation of modern art and design, offering various opportunities for public engagement through tours, exhibitions, and events.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Interpretation and Education will create a strategic vision for how the site’s history and significance are communicated to the public. This role will oversee major educational initiatives, including exhibitions, tours, and programs for diverse audiences. The Director will ensure that the Glass House exemplifies best practices in visitor-centered interpretation and embodies principles of equity, inclusion, and diversity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive interpretive plan that aligns with the organization’s mission of telling diverse narratives.
  • Plan and evaluate educational programs and activities that foster critical thinking and community engagement.
  • Build partnerships with local schools and organizations to enhance educational outreach.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of educators and interpreters, ensuring high-quality programming.
  • Collaborate with leadership on fundraising and community relations efforts.
  • Conduct research on site history to inform interpretive strategies and public programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in history interpretation or museum education, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of public history and interpretive practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences and foster community relationships.
  • Proficiency in project management and the use of technology in educational programming.
