Position Summary:
The Mechanical Assembly Specialist will play a crucial role in the assembly process of the SPARC Tokamak. This position requires collaboration within a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering environment to address intricate challenges associated with the design, construction, and activation of the SPARC Tokamak.

Key Responsibilities:
As a valued member of our team, you will:

  • Provide insightful design feedback on SPARC subsystems, emphasizing manufacturability and assembly.
  • Engage in both formal and informal design reviews to ensure deliverables are assembly-friendly.
  • Develop comprehensive solutions for complex problems, from conceptualization to tooling design and implementation.
  • Design, analyze, and oversee the fabrication of innovative tooling solutions, managing all project aspects.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to gather early feedback, ensuring all requirements are satisfied.
  • Take ownership of processes by testing, implementing, and transitioning to production technicians for routine operations.
  • Draft and disseminate clear work planning instructions to outline upcoming tasks.
  • Support hands-on operations during Tokamak Assembly, fulfilling various roles as needed.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience in a High Engagement Non-Classroom Extracurricular Project.
  • Multiple internships in Hardware Engineering lasting three months or longer.
  • 2-3 years of Mechanical Engineering experience demonstrating project ownership.

Preferred Experience:
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • 3+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience with a focus on project ownership.
  • Experience with lifting operations.
  • Familiarity with welding processes and capabilities (welding skills not required).
  • Experience with carbon steel welded constructions and basic joint design.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Comfort working in environments with industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, and high voltage.
