The Indirect Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering internal assistance concerning indirect taxes, including sales and use, property, and severance/mining taxes. This position is also responsible for identifying tax credits and refunds while supporting audit defense efforts.

Key responsibilities include processing tax payment requests and supplying necessary documentation to third-party compliance providers for sales and use, as well as property tax.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide expertise in sales and use tax and mining/severance tax (indirect/transaction/trust taxes).
Manage the tax certificate process, including thorough research and validation.
Assist with issues related to Vertex/SAP systems.
Conduct research on sales and severance tax matters.
Offer support in property tax assessments.
Engage in cost segregation reviews.
Examine renditions and identify tax exemptions.
Participate in appeals and provide backup as needed.
Support third-party compliance providers.
Deliver documentation for outsourced tax compliance providers—sales and use, property, and income tax.
Respond to tax-related notices.
Process tax payments efficiently.
Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Assist with special projects and research initiatives.
Conduct project analysis, reviews, and recommendations.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES:
Technical proficiency in sales and use tax.
Experience in audit defense, research, and tax incentives is preferred.
Self-motivated individual with a keen eye for detail and exceptional organizational skills, capable of meeting deadlines, working independently, and managing multiple tasks.
Familiarity with tax research tools is advantageous.
Highly reliable; the nature of this role necessitates excellent attendance and a strong customer focus.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with advanced skills in Excel and database management.
Experience with Vertex and SAP is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be capable of performing assigned tasks.
Ability to access all necessary locations, including plant, terminal, and office environments.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to industrial environments.

Must navigate all areas within a site, which may involve heights of up to 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

Work will occur in an office, mining, and lime processing setting.

Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, and metallic particles.

Physical activities may include standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Travel may be required up to 10% as directed by leadership.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1-2 years of tax-related experience or equivalent educational background.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
2 or more years of tax experience, ideally within public accounting, manufacturing, or the chemical industry.
