POSITION SUMMARY:

The Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering internal assistance regarding indirect taxes, including sales and use, property, and severance/mining taxes. This position is also tasked with pursuing tax credits and refunds while aiding in audit defense. Additionally, the specialist will manage tax payment requests and supply necessary documentation to third-party compliance providers for sales and use, as well as property tax.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the management of sales and use, as well as mining/severance taxes (indirect/transaction/trust taxes).

• Oversee the tax certificate process, including thorough research and validation.

• Assist with issues related to Vertex/SAP systems.

• Conduct research on sales and severance tax matters.

Provide assistance with property tax matters.

• Engage in cost segregation reviews.

• Analyze renditions and assess tax exemptions.

• Participate in appeals and provide necessary backup.

Support third-party compliance providers.

• Supply supporting documentation for outsourced tax compliance providers covering sales and use, property, and income tax.

• Address tax notices promptly.

• Process tax payments efficiently.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Assist with special projects and conduct research.

• Analyze projects, review findings, and make recommendations.

• Execute all other responsibilities as required.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES:
  • Technical expertise in sales and use tax.
  • Experience in audit defense, research, and tax incentives is preferred.
  • A self-motivated individual with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, capable of meeting deadlines, working independently, and managing multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in tax research tools is advantageous.
  • Highly reliable; the time-sensitive nature of this role necessitates excellent attendance and a strong customer focus.
  • Advanced PC skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Familiarity with Vertex and SAP is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be capable of performing assigned tasks.
  • Must have the ability to access all necessary locations.
  • Must tolerate outdoor working conditions, including exposure to high temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Must be able to navigate heights, confined spaces, and other challenging environments.
  • The role may involve exposure to various working conditions, including extreme temperatures, noise, and atmospheric elements.
  • Must be able to perform physical actions such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional travel may be required as directed by leadership.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1-2 years of tax experience or equivalent education.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 or more years of tax experience, ideally in public accounting, manufacturing, or the chemical sector.
