POSITION OVERVIEW

The Museum Facilities Operations Associate is responsible for the comprehensive cleaning and sanitation of the museum premises while also assisting with various tasks such as moving furniture, transporting items to and from the museum storage, executing special work requests, and supporting the organization of museum events. This role operates under both direct and indirect supervision, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy, and secure environment for both visitors and staff. Availability for evening and weekend shifts is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties outline the primary responsibilities of this position, though they are not exhaustive:

  • Conduct general cleaning tasks, including the sanitation of restrooms, exhibition spaces, administrative offices, dining areas, auditoriums, entrance zones, outdoor courtyards, loading docks, hallways, staircases, and exterior grounds as needed. Regularly empty, clean, and maintain waste receptacles.
  • Assist in the transportation, setup, and dismantling of furniture and equipment for special events. Ensure cleanup and waste removal post-events.
  • Maintain flooring through appropriate cleaning methods, including vacuuming, dust mopping, damp mopping, waxing, and buffing of all hard surface areas.
  • Utilize and manage supplies and materials necessary for various cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Execute physically demanding work orders, which may include moving furniture and handling pickups and deliveries for museum departments.
  • Perform external pickups and deliveries using museum vehicles or rented equipment as required.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as assigned by management.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively manage their time and responsibilities, work independently as well as collaboratively, and communicate efficiently with supervisors and colleagues.
  • To succeed in this role, individuals must be capable of performing each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill these functions.
  • Availability for evening and weekend shifts is mandatory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent will be required to navigate the museum on foot, which includes extended periods of standing and the use of stairs as necessary. The role also involves lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The majority of work will take place indoors within the museum. However, some duties may require performing tasks outside the museum premises. Employees may experience changes in their work environment due to varying weather conditions.
