Job Overview

The Chief Operations Officer will play a crucial role during a period of significant organizational expansion, collaborating closely with the CEO to shape and implement the strategic vision of the organization.

With comprehensive oversight of finance, museum operations, security, IT, facilities, and human resources, the COO is instrumental in ensuring operational efficiency, innovation, and overall success. The selected candidate will promote a positive workplace culture and act as a strategic partner to the CEO, bringing operational expertise to the executive leadership team.

The COO will work on-site and will report directly to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovation and Process Enhancement: Spearhead innovative initiatives and refine processes to boost efficiency and streamline workflows across the organization.
  • Executive Representation: Serve as an ambassador for the organization, both internally and externally, demonstrating strong relational skills and executive presence.
  • Team Leadership: Foster an optimal environment for a high-performing team to collaborate effectively. Facilitate and model collaborative leadership through planning and coordinating team meetings, retreats, and social events.
  • Financial Oversight: Supervise finance committee activities, grant support, cash flow management, endowment oversight, and budgeting. Ensure effective management of outsourced finance and HR services.
  • Integration of People and Processes: Develop and implement systems that enhance collaboration and integration of personnel and workflows throughout the organization.
  • Governance Leadership: Direct nominating, governance, and finance committee functions, managing all logistical aspects of board and committee meetings.
  • Human Resources Management: Apply best practices in HR, focusing on talent development, performance reviews, professional growth, and onboarding processes.
  • IT Management: Oversee technology systems and lead staff training on essential platforms.
  • Risk Management: Identify and address potential internal and external risks, utilizing external counsel as needed.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the CEO to formulate and execute the strategic plan, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Museum Operations: Direct strategic planning for museum enhancements, maintenance, and security for events.
  • Project Management: Act as the organizational expert in project management, supporting events and vendor coordination.
  • Development Operations: Aid in the management of the development portfolio, utilizing data for revenue forecasting and goal tracking.
  • Collaboration with Building Management: Serve as the primary liaison with landlords and key partners regarding operational matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in operations, business development, finance, or a related area.
