Position Summary

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Habilitation Specialist Assistants, supporting a dynamic and rewarding environment for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Essential Accountabilities:
  • Cultivate an atmosphere that fosters each person's social responsibility, independence, dignity, and continuous growth through engaging activities.
  • Implement individualized goals designed to maximize each participant's level of autonomy, as determined by the interdisciplinary team (IDT).
  • Provide comprehensive training in daily living skills and, when necessary, directly assist individuals requiring total support with tasks such as personal hygiene, grooming, and meal preparation.
  • Monitor participants' progress meticulously by collecting and documenting performance data, ensuring a clear understanding of their development.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants, demonstrating exemplary behavior in various program and community settings.
  • Implement approved behavioral interventions when required, adhering to the least restrictive techniques outlined by OPWDD guidelines.
  • Maintain current certifications in AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid, ensuring readiness to respond effectively to diverse situations.
  • Execute established activity schedules for each consumer, promoting structure and engagement throughout the day.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in completing all necessary paperwork accurately and efficiently, collaborating with the Supervising Habilitation Specialist when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, stimulating, and aesthetically pleasing environment at all times, fostering a welcoming atmosphere for participants.
  • Supervise lunch periods effectively, providing assistance with feeding, unwrapping food items, opening containers, and offering verbal and physical support as required.
  • Accompany participants to various appointments (medical, psychiatric, etc.) as needed, ensuring their smooth transition and participation.
  • Be physically capable of interacting with program individuals, navigating the environment independently, and assisting in all SCIP interventions, emergency CPR, AMAP, and/or first aid techniques and fire drills.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality at all times, safeguarding sensitive information entrusted to you.
