Description

The Assistant Habilitation Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their full potential. This position requires a high level of dedication, patience, and understanding in creating a safe and stimulating environment that fosters growth and independence.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement personalized plans to enhance the social responsibility, independence, dignity, and continued growth of each participant.
  2. Collaborate with the IDT to design goals that maximize each participant's level of independence.
  3. Provide training in activities of daily living and, when necessary, perform these activities for individuals requiring total support.
  4. Monitor progress by collecting and documenting performance data.
  5. Serve as a positive role model in various program and community settings.
  6. Implement behavioral interventions using least restrictive OPWDD-approved techniques.
  7. Ensure the unit is clean, safe, stimulating, and appropriately decorated at all times.
  8. Supervise lunch periods, including feeding participants, assisting with food, and providing verbal and physical support.
  9. Participate in medical, psychiatric, and other appointments as required.
  10. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  11. Caseload and location are subject to change.

Qualifications

A valid NYS driver's license is required, although this may be waived for non-driving Assistant Habilitation Specialists and relief staff. A High School Diploma/GED is mandatory, and experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
