Job Title: Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer Lead Electrical

Job Summary:

The Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer Lead Electrical will lead a team of lower-level building code inspectors and plan reviewers to ensure compliance with state and local regulations, safety codes, laws, and standards. This role involves performing plan reviews and inspections, ranging from moderate to highly complex work, and coordinating functions or projects in various stages of completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical leadership to other building code inspectors and plan reviewers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
  2. Assist the Certified Building Official with everyday activities related to residential and commercial construction.
  3. Examine complex plans and specifications to determine compliance with Bernalillo County Building Ordinance and state and national certified disciplines.
  4. Perform field inspections, including moderate to highly complex work, requiring simultaneous coordination and unusual problems or deviations from established practices and standards.
  5. Collaborate with property owners, contractors, and the public to interpret and explain rules, regulations, ordinances, and standards.
  6. Participate in the review and development of departmental procedures.
  7. Attend and actively participate in local and state advisory committees.
  8. Develop departmental training workshops and facilitate training sessions.
  9. Respond to and serve as a technical expert in court proceedings as necessary.
  10. Prepare reports on inspections and maintain files on related documents.
  11. Perform systems administrator duties for the building code inspector/plan reviewer database.
  12. Coordinate special projects and perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Nine (9) years of foreman-level experience in general construction.
  3. International Code Council certified building inspector certification or obtain within nine (9) months from date of hire.
  4. State of New Mexico certified inspector certification for the individual's primary discipline or obtain within nine (9) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions:

  1. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors.
  2. Worker is exposed to occasional vibration and noise factors while performing building inspection duties at construction sites.
  3. Indoor duties are performed on even surfaces, which may be carpet, tile, or concrete, and may be either wet or dry. Outdoor duties may be either wet or dry. Outdoor duties may be performed on surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, natural ground, ice, snow, gravel, or shingled roofs. Stairs, ladders, and scaffolding are used in the performance of outdoor duties.
  4. Worker may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation in the performance of essential duties.
  5. Work hazards or potential hazards include working in heights and around active construction sites and scaffolding. Other hazards include exposure to loose animals.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials:

  1. Worker uses a variety of office machines, including a mainframe computer, Xerox copiers, and other office machines, communication devices.
  2. Worker uses a wide variety of work aids, including construction documents, plans, books, binders, and files, hard hat, gloves, tape measure, architectural scales, and camera.
  3. County vehicle is used on an as-needed basis.
