Position Overview:
This role necessitates possession of a valid state phlebotomy license.

As a Senior Phlebotomy Technician Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP). You will serve as a representative of our organization, interacting with patients who visit Quest Diagnostics for routine health assessments or critical health insights.


Your primary responsibilities will include drawing high-quality blood samples from patients and preparing these specimens for laboratory analysis while adhering to established protocols and procedures.

The Senior Phlebotomy Technician Lead is expected to foster an environment of trust and confidence, skillfully explaining procedures to patients and ensuring accurate blood specimen collection.


This position involves directing the daily activities of the site and may include supervising one or more Phlebotomy Service Representatives (PSR) on-site.


In this role, you will exemplify Quest Leadership Behaviors, emphasizing process excellence and maintaining confidentiality and accuracy regarding patient information.

Successful candidates may be assigned to various settings, including a doctor's office, patient service center, or long-term care facilities, depending on operational needs.


Compensation:
$25.95 per hour


Salary offers are determined based on various factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications. Market and organizational factors are also taken into account. Eligible candidates may receive annual performance-based bonuses.

Key Responsibilities:
Collect specimens following established protocols.

This includes, but is not limited to:
drug screenings, biometric assessments, and insurance examinations.

Administer oral solutions in accordance with established training.


Research test/client information and confirm all written and electronic orders using laboratory technology systems or service directories.


Ensure accurate completion of all data entry requirements, including patient registration, test order entry from requisitions, and managing standing orders.

Enter billing information and collect payments when necessary, safeguarding assets and credit card details.

Process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test orders.

Perform clerical duties related to the department, such as data entry, inventory management, stocking supplies, and answering phones as needed.

Understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures (e.g., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual) and ensure adherence by all staff members.


Verify patient demographic information and initials, including patient signatures post-venipuncture, to confirm correct labeling of tubes.

Assist in compiling and submitting monthly statistics and data.


Maintain all relevant phlebotomy logs in a timely manner, including maintenance and temperature logs.

Complete training courses and stay updated on the latest phlebotomy techniques.

Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off-site or outside normal shifts.

Participate in special projects and teams.

Stay informed on company communications and assist in distributing technical information to the workgroup.


Perform Point of Care (POC) testing at designated sites as needed and complete training/competency evaluations per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).


With appropriate training, act as a mentor and resource for new employees, facilitating their transition into the PSC work environment and familiarizing them with established procedures.

Assist with periodic inventory counts, report shortages and issues to the group leader or supervisor as they arise.

Help prepare schedules for the assigned workgroup or PSCs.


Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues, document problems, and prepare reports on critical issues as they occur.


Ensure that staff adheres to all safety protocols by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including lab coats, gloves, and face shields when necessary.

Assist supervisors in implementing SOPs for phlebotomy services in line with Quest Diagnostics guidelines.


Ensure facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly manner, taking appropriate action to inform the Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance.


Act as a coach, mentor, instructor, and resource advisor for new employees, serving as the primary contact for staff on-site and providing regular feedback to the group lead or supervisor.


Qualifications:

Required Experience:
Three years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.

Experience with keyboard/data entry.

Flexibility and availability based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.

Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record, if applicable.


Travel and flexible hours are required to work across multiple locations and cover at Patient Service Center/Mobile/Long-Term Care/In-Office Phlebotomy locations with minimal notice.


Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.

Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to lift light to moderately heavy objects. Normal duties may require lifting and carrying objects.

Objects weighing between 1 to 15 pounds are frequently lifted and carried; objects weighing between 16 to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted and carried, while objects exceeding 25 pounds should not be lifted without assistance.


Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods; requires prolonged eye and hand coordination.

Must be capable of performing repetitive tasks with the dominant hand frequently throughout the day.

Position requires travel.

Extensive use of phone and PC.

Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness.

Ability to communicate verbally, walk, balance, bend/kneel, push/pull, and reach/twist as necessary.

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

Licenses/Certifications:
Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states, e.g., California, Nevada, Washington, and Louisiana)
