Job Overview:
Responsible for executing venipuncture and skin puncture techniques along with the pre-analytical and post-analytical phases of laboratory assessments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations. Chooses the suitable phlebotomy method based on the patient's age and physical condition. Evaluates the volume of blood necessary for testing according to the patient's demographics and the specific tests to be conducted. Conducts venipuncture, finger sticks, or heel sticks proficiently across all age groups. Accurately labels samples and ensures their transport to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as necessary. Manages the pre-analytical phase of testing, which includes bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological samples. Maintains courteous and cooperative interactions with patients, the public, and colleagues. Performs additional tasks as needed, such as patient check-ins, revenue collection, test order accessioning, and providing preparation instructions to patients. Handles challenging patient interactions with professionalism. Exhibits professionalism consistently in both demeanor and appearance. Complies with directives from supervisors, leads, and senior staff.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Refer to Minimum Education and Required Licenses.
Education
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is mandatory.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California)
Additional Requirements:
  • Note: The SCPMG Regional Reference Lab does not mandate phlebotomy certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant college coursework in life sciences.

Additional Information:

  • Primarily a night shift role, with flexibility for other shifts as required.
  • Travel may be necessary to various locations as needed.
  • Weekend and holiday work may be required based on operational needs.
  • This position is on-call, with variable days and hours.
