Laboratory Assistant, Non-Phlebotomy Specialist

The Clinical Laboratory Support Associate plays a vital role in the Department's operations, providing administrative and technical assistance to the Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Key responsibilities include:
- Receiving and screening specimens for acceptability in accordance with established guidelines.
- Processing, distributing, or packaging all specimens received (excluding Blood Bank and Anatomic Pathology samples).
- Handling inquiries for lab results, specimen status, and general information regarding the Department and its functions.
- Communicating and interacting effectively and professionally with patients, colleagues, and guests, with consideration for the age and needs of the patient.
- Assisting in performing and documenting laboratory testing, equipment maintenance, and function checks.
- Adhering to established Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Carrying out additional clinical and administrative duties to meet the needs of the Department.
- Maintaining professional growth and development, actively participating in the Department's Quality Improvement program.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of experience in laboratory testing assistance, preferably in an acute care facility setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialized or technical training from an accredited school of Medical Assistant program.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH) certification.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) certification, if not already obtained, must be acquired within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required for LA City employees only).
