Job Summary
The Department of State Hospitals is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for performing phlebotomy on clients, processing and preparing laboratory specimens, and operating specialized mechanical laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy on clients, including fingerstick when needed
- Process and prepare laboratory specimens and requisition forms for in-house and Reference Laboratory testing
- Enter patient/employee lab tests into the lab computer LIS system
- Answer the phone and take messages
- Assist the laboratory staff in transcribing laboratory data entries into lab forms and log sheets
- General cleaning, including all areas of the Clinical Laboratory
- Prepare infectious waste containers and soiled laundry for pickup
- Replenish supplies from the storeroom and Central Supply as needed
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician I license required
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required
- Ability to work closely with others required
Working Conditions
The position requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment with frequent exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. The position also requires working with specialized mechanical laboratory equipment and computer systems.
Special Requirements
- Background Investigation clearance required prior to being hired
- Medical Clearance required prior to being hired
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician I License required
