Job Summary

The Department of State Hospitals is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for performing phlebotomy on clients, processing and preparing laboratory specimens, and operating specialized mechanical laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy on clients, including fingerstick when needed
  • Process and prepare laboratory specimens and requisition forms for in-house and Reference Laboratory testing
  • Enter patient/employee lab tests into the lab computer LIS system
  • Answer the phone and take messages
  • Assist the laboratory staff in transcribing laboratory data entries into lab forms and log sheets
  • General cleaning, including all areas of the Clinical Laboratory
  • Prepare infectious waste containers and soiled laundry for pickup
  • Replenish supplies from the storeroom and Central Supply as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician I license required
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality required
  • Ability to work closely with others required

Working Conditions

The position requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment with frequent exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. The position also requires working with specialized mechanical laboratory equipment and computer systems.

Special Requirements

  • Background Investigation clearance required prior to being hired
  • Medical Clearance required prior to being hired
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician I License required
