Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Desktop Support Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will provide technical support and assistance to our staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our desktop systems and network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first-level technical support for desktop and network issues, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Organize and prioritize support requests, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Monitor and administer help desk tickets, tracking progress and verifying completion.
  • Assist staff with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktop computers, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • Prepare, install, test, and certify desktop configurations, including software drivers.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting for desktop and laptop computers, identifying and resolving issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including checking workstations and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Execute PC hardware moves, loading and configuring software, and verifying functionality.
  • Decommission existing hardware, ensuring seamless transition to new systems.
  • Complete, update, and close service center tickets, ensuring accurate records.
  • Act as a team lead for troubleshooting, systems backups, archiving, and disaster recovery.
  • Maintain hardware platform standards, reviewing and updating regularly.
  • Record, track, and document problem-solving processes, including successful and unsuccessful decisions.
  • Maintain and repair desktop computer hardware and printers, ensuring optimal performance.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in desktop support or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office.
