Position Overview
Reports to: Program Supervisor
Direct Reports: None
Status: Non-Exempt; 35-hour workweek; may include evenings and weekends.
The Family Support Navigator plays a crucial role in offering confidential assistance, mentorship, and advocacy to families of children and youth experiencing behavioral health challenges or autism spectrum disorders. As an integral member of the support team, the Navigator collaborates with families and healthcare professionals to create tailored service plans that address individual needs and priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leverage personal experience to assist families and improve service systems.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with the Program Supervisor, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
- Engage with families, youth, and community organizations to foster a supportive network.
Essential Duties:
- Guide families through educational, therapeutic, and social service systems, identifying and addressing any barriers to care.
- Empower families by developing their advocacy skills and supporting informed decision-making.
- Provide training and resources to enhance families' abilities to meet their children's wellness needs.
- Document all interactions and services provided in accordance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure comprehensive support for families.
- Facilitate support groups and community outreach efforts to promote awareness and resources.
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience:
- Personal experience as a parent or guardian of a child with behavioral health or autism spectrum disorder.
- Two years of knowledge regarding local child-serving systems and resources.
- Experience with administrative tasks, including documentation and data tracking.
- Completion of relevant training within a specified timeframe.
Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and advocacy.
- Experience working with Medicaid and understanding billable services.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Skills Required:
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in using technology and software relevant to job functions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Working Environment:
Work may occur in various settings, including community locations and virtual platforms.
