Job Description:

Austin Community College seeks a highly skilled Interpretive Education Specialist to lead our Basic Community Interpreting online lectures. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for instructional preparation, teaching, and evaluating student performance. We are looking for an individual with expertise in community interpreting, excellent teaching skills, and the ability to utilize a variety of teaching strategies to promote critical thinking.

Specific Duties:

  • Teach online classes via Zoom, Monday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 CST, 10 classes per semester during the Fall semester.
  • Evaluate student performance remotely and provide feedback to students.
  • Develop instructional materials aligned with course objectives and coordinate instructional topics to prepare students for certification.
  • Utilize technology such as Blackboard to facilitate learning and maintain expertise in teaching responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • CCHI or NBCMI Certification
  • At least one year of community, educational, or medical interpreting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Familiarity with Blackboard and Zoom

Description of Duties and Tasks:

  • Teach courses as assigned, following the catalog descriptions and course outlines, and in a manner designed to assist students in achieving specific course objectives.
  • Advise students of requirements established by the instructor for meeting course objectives.
  • Periodically examine and inform each student of their progress toward achieving course objectives.
  • Prepare and administer examinations by-program established for the subject area of assignment.
  • Participate in evaluations of curriculum and instruction.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Accepted principles, practices, and trends of the community interpreting program.
  • Applicable sections of the State Education Code.
  • Curricula and requirements for academic subjects.
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations, and educational master plans.
  • Labor market conditions and demographic composition of the community's population.

Salary: The estimated salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This hourly rate varies depending on assignment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
