Position Summary

This role is available within FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The position can be based in either Akron, OH or Greensburg, PA. The Transmission Line Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing engineering designs, equipment, and standards for the External Engineering team at FirstEnergy. This role will collaborate with various engineering design firms, managing a range of transmission line engineering projects from initial design phases through to construction and documentation updates. The individual will provide regular updates on project progress and proactively address any potential issues that may hinder successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee multiple transmission line design projects across various external design firms, ensuring collaboration and timely delivery.
  • Develop engineering designs and project scopes for transmission line initiatives, ensuring all necessary documentation and support are available.
  • Document and track design issues in the designated issue tracker database following project reviews.
  • Ensure that designs maintain a safe environment for personnel, contractors, and the public.
  • Review bills of materials and specifications prepared by design firms to procure necessary equipment and materials.
  • Prepare and submit applications for engineering permits as required, ensuring compliance with NESC clearance standards.
  • Assist in property acquisition by coordinating the preparation of necessary sketches, maps, and easement plans.
  • Guide technical staff in gathering and recording data for design projects, collaborating with external firms and vendors.
  • Review manufacturer drawings for adherence to specifications.
  • Facilitate communication across business units regarding project requirements and compliance with schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain up-to-date standards and specifications, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Possess or pursue Engineer in Training and Professional Engineering licenses, with potential advancement linked to the ability to stamp engineering drawings.
  • Contribute to FirstEnergy's performance by delivering effective work results that align with organizational values.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required; a Professional Engineer's license may substitute for a degree.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of engineering experience is required.
  • Proficient in relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other engineering tools.
  • Commitment to safety and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across various teams.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and adapt to varying work hours.
