Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer will take charge of leading or executing engineering projects focused on power system protection and control. These projects vary significantly in size, complexity, and voltage class, encompassing everything from minor distribution equipment enhancements to extensive transmission initiatives. This role plays a critical part in shaping the future of the electrical grid's resilience, reliability, and economic efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage intricate assignments that necessitate advanced electrical engineering methodologies, leading to the creation of innovative processes, equipment, and technological solutions.
  • Oversee departmental or divisional project studies, reports, and design tasks.
  • Conduct power system studies and coordinate system protection settings across various projects, including those up to 500-kV voltage levels.
  • Develop comprehensive design basis documentation for protective settings and create native relay configuration files.
  • Facilitate design reviews and uphold quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers to outline project scopes and conceptual designs.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, accompanied by a minimum of three (3) years of experience in electrical systems studies within the electric utility or industrial power distribution sectors.
  • A Master's degree with two (2) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the Bachelor's degree and experience requirement.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Professional Engineer license is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in developing protective relay settings within the Transmission or Distribution sectors.
  • Familiarity with widely used system modeling software such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM.
  • Understanding of protection schemes and philosophies commonly implemented at Transmission and Distribution substations.
  • Experience in creating native relay setting files using SEL's AcSELerator and GE's Enervista software.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical single lines, three lines, schematics, and functional diagrams.
  • Capability to perform calculations related to short circuits, current transformer performance, over-current element coordination, and relay load ability.
  • Experience in conducting Grounding, Arc Flash, and other power system studies is advantageous.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning activities for substations.
  • A Professional Engineer license or the pursuit of one is highly preferred.

This position is part of the Electrical Engineering field.

Work Schedule: Full-time

Travel Requirements: Yes, approximately 10% of the time
