Overview
The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the healthcare process by performing various tasks related to specimen collection and processing. This position may involve working in both on-site and off-site environments, with the potential for on-call duties as needed. The Phlebotomist may also take on supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a direct supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Executes a range of tasks with increasing proficiency under varying levels of oversight, ensuring accurate documentation of results. May utilize point-of-care laboratory devices. Conducts quality assurance and instrument verification procedures, maintaining necessary records. Manages the intake of specimens into the laboratory, which may include processing, transporting to testing sites, storing for future analysis, and proper disposal. Responsible for the delivery and transport of supplies, equipment, reports, and specimens between the laboratory and other healthcare facilities. Collects specimens as instructed, utilizing the appropriate equipment for handling and collection. Inputs or retrieves information from established computer systems. Provides clear and comprehensive instructions to patients and laboratory clients. Reviews physician orders for necessary supporting documentation. Addresses billing inquiries and updates insurance information as required.General Expectations:
Answers phone calls, directs inquiries, takes messages, and provides standard information to callers. Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles across the patient demographic, assessing and interpreting age-specific data to deliver appropriate care. Commits to patient, visitor, and staff safety by adhering to safety regulations, recognizing the implications of medical errors, and participating in safety education initiatives. Upholds established policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Engages in educational programs and in-service training sessions. Maintains accurate records, reports, and statistics as directed. Strives to provide exceptional service to all clients, fostering teamwork and practicing fiscal responsibility through continuous improvement. Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory workspace and equipment.Travel Requirements:

Minimum Education:
Work Experience:
Less than 1 year of relevant experience is required.Licenses:
Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician - ASCP preferred upon hire and Basic Life Support certification preferred upon hire.Courses and Training:
Medical Terminology preferred upon hire and Completion of a Phlebotomy Program preferred upon hire.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication and computer skills are essential.
