The Blood Donor Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock is a vital component of ensuring a stable blood inventory for patients and the community. As a member of this team, you will play a crucial role in creating happy, healthy, and sustainable communities.
Responsibilities- Provides a warm and welcoming donor experience, ensuring donors feel valued and informed.
- Conducts thorough donor interviews, gathering accurate medical history information to determine suitability for donation.
- Performs whole blood phlebotomy and automated apheresis donations, adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols.
- Labels sample tubes and collection packs, maintaining accurate records and data entry into the computer system.
- Prepares components from centrifugation, separation, mixing, labeling, and verification of records and data entry into the computer system.
- Utilizes Current Good Manufacturing Practices, recording results of all procedures performed.
- Assists other Blood Donor Center staff in managing reactions and medical emergencies.
- Maintains equipment and stocks supplies, ensuring a seamless donor experience.
- Maintains complete confidentiality of donor information and records, adhering to DHMC Privacy/Confidentiality/HIPPA policies.
- Knows and adheres to safety/infection control techniques.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Formal phlebotomy training required.
- Apheresis experience preferred.
- 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.
- 1 year of medical/technical experience desired.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Proven work experience with the public.
- Strong computer ability desired.
- Applicant must be honest, dependable, able to multi-task, and be detail oriented.
- Certified Phlebotomist, ASCP preferred.
- BLS required within 30 days of employment.
