Responsibilities- Donor Greeting and Interview: Provides a welcoming experience for donors, directing them to educational materials and obtaining accurate medical history information.
- Donor Suitability: Determines donor eligibility using guidelines and reference materials.
- Phlebotomy and Apheresis: Performs whole blood phlebotomy and automated apheresis donations.
- Sample Handling and Record-Keeping: Labels sample tubes, completes records, and performs post-collection handling according to FDA guidelines.
- Component Preparation: Prepares components from centrifugation, separation, mixing, labeling, and verifies records and data entry.
- Quality Control and Maintenance: Performs Quality Control and Preventive Maintenance procedures.
- Medical Emergencies: Assists in managing reactions and medical emergencies.
- Equipment Maintenance and Supply Management: Maintains equipment and stocks supplies.
- Confidentiality and Safety: Maintains complete confidentiality of donor information and records, adhering to safety and infection control techniques.
- Education and Training: High school graduate or equivalent required; formal phlebotomy training required.
- Experience: Apheresis experience preferred; 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred; 1 year medical/technical experience desired.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required; proven work experience with the public; strong computer ability desired.
- Certifications: Certified Phlebotomist, ASCP preferred; BLS required within 30 days of employment.
