Job Overview

Join the dynamic team at United Steel, a leading name in the fabrication and erection of structural steel and miscellaneous metals.

We are currently in search of an experienced Automotive Technician with over five years of expertise in both diesel and gasoline vehicle maintenance. This role involves the safe repair and upkeep of manual and automatic trucks, along with various automotive vehicles, through the following responsibilities:

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze job orders and listen to vehicles in operation to identify malfunctions and strategize repair procedures.
  • Install new ignition systems, align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other components.
  • Inspect protective guards, loose bolts, and required safety devices on vehicles, making necessary adjustments.
  • Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicles to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct DOT safety inspections and adhere to federal motor carrier regulations.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot issues using standard diagnostic techniques to determine optimal repair methods.
  • Maintain emissions testing equipment and perform emissions tests as required.
  • Utilize a manual jack while ensuring all safety protocols are followed to prevent hazards.
  • Order parts and manage inventory levels effectively.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance as necessary.
  • Operate industrial trucks or electric hoists to assist in the movement of materials and products.
  • Keep vehicles in a clean and orderly condition while following established safety guidelines.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance on equipment.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience or training, or a combination of education and experience. A comprehensive understanding of gas, diesel, and hydraulic systems is essential.
  • Basic skills in shop mathematics, reading, writing, and English comprehension, along with mechanical aptitude and the ability to utilize lifting devices.
  • Desired skills include strong attention to detail, multitasking capabilities, and effective communication skills.
  • ASE certification is highly preferred.
  • Welding experience is also highly desired.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening is required.
Working Conditions

In this role, employees may frequently encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibrations. Occasional exposure to various conditions within a manufacturing environment is expected. The company provides engineering controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and regular training to minimize exposure to these elements.
