Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our environmental management team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Management System (EMS): Develop and implement an effective EMS to ensure conformance to environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Risk Management Program: Manage and maintain the Risk Management Program to ensure compliance with 40 CFR 68 and Clean Air Act 112r.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM): Ensure compliance with the PSM regulation to meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.119.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain and update documentation supporting the facility's implementation of the 14 elements of the PSM program, including wastewater treatment plant operation, air permitting and reporting, EPCRA reporting, storm water pollution prevention, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, and hazardous waste.
  • Compliance Audits: Participate in compliance audits for PSM to ensure zero late action items and maintain documentation for employees.
  • Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs for employees on environmental and process safety management procedures.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with management, employees, and regulatory agencies on environmental and process safety management issues.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in environmental management, process safety management, and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and industry-specific software packages.
