Position Overview

NHCCare is seeking a dedicated Culinary Service Associate to become part of our esteemed team. The Culinary Service Associate plays a vital role in the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) department, engaging in various tasks related to meal preparation and service for our valued residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to make independent decisions when required.
  2. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all relevant regulations affecting FNS, including patient care, sanitation, and safety protocols.
  3. Assist in ensuring the FNS department operates in a safe, secure, and sanitary manner, promptly reporting any issues to the FNS Manager.
  4. Exercise sound judgment in managing supplies, minimizing food waste, and conserving utilities.
  5. Support the receiving and storage of food and supplies, ensuring proper labeling and handling techniques are followed.
  6. Perform dishwashing duties, including scraping, stacking, washing, and sanitizing dishes and utensils.
  7. Ensure the availability of clean and sanitized dining ware to meet meal service schedules.
  8. Maintain cleanliness in the dish room and dining areas, including trash disposal and surface sanitization.
  9. Assist culinary staff in preparing and serving meals tailored to various dietary needs, ensuring adherence to planned menus.
  10. Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and their families.
  11. Prepare meal trays accurately and deliver them as required.
  12. Participate in training sessions and in-service programs as necessary.
  13. In the absence of supervisory staff, report to the Cook for guidance within the FNS department.
  14. Adhere to departmental dress code and complete additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a genuine interest in food service and enjoy working with the senior care population. Essential qualifications include:

  • Willingness to learn food preparation and basic cooking skills.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and food safety procedures is preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficiency in English and basic reading skills for job-related tasks.
  • Good mental and physical health.
  • Basic computer skills or a desire to learn.
  • Commitment to punctuality and fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Completion of an approved Sanitation Course certification as required.
