Liability Claims Specialist
Location: Remote
The Liability Claims Specialist plays a crucial role in collaborating with our third-party claims administrator and insurance providers to oversee the claims investigation process. This position involves assessing claims concerning liability, causation, and damages; formulating a resolution strategy; and effectively concluding claims in a fair and just manner. The focus areas include general liability, product liability, auto liability, cargo claims, and property claims against the company, with potential involvement in workers' compensation claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the third-party administrator (TPA) to ensure they have the necessary contact information and adhere to customer service protocols during interviews and record reviews of claimants, witnesses, and other relevant parties.
- Examine existing insurance policies to confirm applicable coverage and limits.
- Oversee the TPA file to ensure timely and cost-effective resolution of claims, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain accurate reserves and financial data within authorized limits.
- Maintain electronic diaries for timely follow-ups on claim activities.
- Document all activities and records thoroughly in the claims management software, ensuring a paperless environment.
- Collaborate with Quality Control teams for prompt product testing to identify manufacturers and assess any product defects related to incidents.
- Manage litigated claims in conjunction with both internal and external legal counsel, following company guidelines.
- Resolve claims efficiently and equitably, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed prior to closure.
- Develop and nurture professional relationships with existing vendors and establish new partnerships as required.
- Understand and apply relevant state laws and procedures in claims management.
- Participate in regular claims review meetings.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of claims data for reporting purposes.
- Support management in creating streamlined guidelines and procedures for claims handling.
- Attend assigned training sessions and conferences to enhance professional development.
Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Liability Claims Specialist position should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of liability claims experience, or a high school diploma with five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in investigating, managing, and resolving various complex liability claims, including litigated cases.
- Proven ability to handle complaints, resolve conflicts, and negotiate effectively.
- Strong understanding of industry terminology and claims management software.
- Familiarity with multi-state liability laws and best practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Creative problem-solving skills and business acumen.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Team collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for business purposes.
- A valid driver's license and a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire.
